Tigers Unleashed!

The road to the 2015 LHSAA Wrestling State Championship started at the Rebel Open hosted at Pearl River High School. The Tigers looked to build on Last year’s success were seven out of eleven Tigers placed. On Saturday, twelve Tigers registered to participate in the tournament. Missing from the roster among others is junior Blade Rager (HWT), who is recovering from and injury to his left hand. He will be sideline close to ten weeks and the Tigers will need someone to fill the void at heavyweight until he is able to return to the lineup. Junior Hunter Dempster (160) bumped up to the 170 lbs. weight class in order to have some competition. He wrestled his way all the way to the finals before having to forfeit due to a neck injury. Sophomore Christian Sells (106) proved how much difference a year makes as he went on to win the tournament. Junior Nicholas Lirette (126) showed that the extra weight will not be a problem. In all, the Tigers had eight wrestler place at the Rebel Open. Beating their former personal best of seven.

The 2014-15 campaign is set and the road to State will forge a battle tested Ambush. The Tigers have added a couple new challenges for this season. The Tigers will attend Trey Culotta, hosted at Brother Martin. The Trey Culotta, like the Bayou Duals, features not only the top teams in Louisiana, but top competition from out of state. The added exposure to top level opponents will help prepares The Tigers to sharpen their skills for February. The Tigers will also leave the confines of Louisiana and travel to The Sunshine State, where they will take part in The Gator Brawl. The added exposure to top level and out of state opponents will help sharpen their skills for February. In addition, The Tigers will host six home duals this season. Giving the fans plenty of opportunities to come see them in action and add fans to our growing family. It is time to cause UPROAR! Geaux Tigers!

Jambalaya Fundraiser October 24th

The Hahnville Wrestling Team will be holding their first fundraiser of the year on October 24th. The Tigers will be selling Jambalaya during varsity football game against H. L. Bourgeois. Practice has been canceled on that day and wrestlers are to report to the wrestling room by 5:30 PM. At 5:30 PM will begin setting up in the stadium. Any questions or concerns contact a member of the coaching staff. Geaux Tigers!!

The Season has Arrived!!!

The 2014-15 season is here and could prove to be the Year of the Tigers. As the Tigers start the 2014-15 season among the elite in division 1, being ranked in fifth place. In addition, all fourteen of last season’s starters are returning. After a fifth consecutive district title, the class of 2015 looks to become the first class in school history to win four district titles. The senior class will be led by returning state champion Kendrick Jones. As he looks to become the first wrestler to win multiple state titles in school history. Kendrick Jones is the top ranked wrestler at 195 lbs. weight class, where he looks to return to for the upcoming season. The class of 2016 will be bringing the fire power, as nine of the returning juniors have varsity experience. The junior will be led by Nicholas Lirette and Hunter Dempster. Lirette was the state runner-up at 106 lbs. last season and has been working since then to capture his first title. While, he is currently ranked first in the 106 lbs. weight class look for him to cause an uproar in the weight class he wrestles in for the upcoming season. Hunter Dempster is ranked fourth in the 145 lbs. weight class. Dempster will look to improve on last year’s finish at state and make run to be on the podium in February. The class of 2017 are not cubs any longer and will look to hunt with the rest of the Ambush. Two sophomores to look out for are Trevon Honor and Christian Sells. Honor, is a two sport athlete, made noise last year at 182 lbs. weight class. He has worked extremely hard over the summer and is looking to improve on last year’s finish at state. Christian Sells was the varsity starter at 106 lbs. weight class, while weighing less than 100 lbs., until Lirette moved down for the second half of the season. This season Sells having grown into the weight class and as a wrestler will look to make his second state appearance count. Honor and Sells along with Lirette were selected to represent the state of Louisiana at the Cadet National Duals in Daytona Beach, Florida. The experience from the National Duals will help the two sophomores in dealing with big tournaments. There you have it. The preseason outlook for 2014-15 Hahnville Tigers. The Tigers will start their season November 8th, when they take part in the Rebel Open in Pearl River. Geaux Tigers!!

We're Baaack!!

The Tigers are back on the prowl. Starting their 2013-14 campaign at Pearl River High School for the Rebel Open. Seven Out of eleven wrestler went on to place on Saturday afternoon. Two matches that stood out on Saturday were both during the championship round. Aaron Cambre’s sudden victory win over Michael Montalban from John Ehret High School and Nick Lirette’s win by fall over Logan Griffin from Thomas Jefferson High School. The off-season really paid off for a lot of the returners, but none more than Zack Lewis. Zack channeled his inner Cael Sanderson as he ankle picked his competition to a first place finish. He’s Baaaaaack! Kendrick Jones has returned to wrestling after his one year hiatus in Texas. His first place finish proves that he is ready to pick up from where he left two years ago. In all, the Tigers had one third place finisher in Caleb Michel (220), one second place finisher in Hunter Dempster (152), and five tournament champions: Nick Lirette (113), Zack Lewis (120), Aaron Cambre (132), Kendrick Jones (195), and Blade Rager (HWT).
